Flat Creek Lodge Georgia Dairy Team Takes Three Awards at
World Championship Cheese Contest
Swainsboro, Georgia (March 23, 2010) – The competition was firm, and sometimes it was ripened or blue, but after less than five years in the business, the Flat Creek Lodge Dairy brought home three medals at the recent World Championship Cheese Contest in held in Madison, Wisconsin. With more than 2,300 entries from cheese-loving countries like Switzerland and Denmark as well as producers from all over the United States, the Georgia Dairy was thrilled to take top honors in two of the 79 categories.
The only Georgia dairy to win medals at the competition, Flat Creek Lodge's dairy team won a Best of Class in the Bandaged Cheddar category for the Natural Rind Cheddar and a Best of Class in Surface (Mold) Ripened Mixed Milk Cheese category for the Uneenodae. The honors didn’t stop there – Flat Creek also won a Second Award in the Bandaged Cheddar, Sharp to Aged category for their Cypress Cheddar.
"Since we opened the dairy just four years ago, we have worked hard to always improve the quality of our products. These awards show us that we have definitely succeeded in creating very high quality cheeses," said Flat Creek Lodge Owner Caroline Harless.
Just the second time Flat Creek Lodge has competed in the Championship Cheese Contest, the Dairy Team was honored to come home with three awards. The competition was tougher than ever this year with an 18 percent rise in entries from 20 countries.
“At Flat Creek, we’re so proud of these wins and the Dairy team’s accomplishments,” said Flat Creek Lodge General Manager Cathy McDaniel. “The dairy is always full of ideas for new cheeses, and the folks at the Dairy continue to surprise and thrill us with their results."
